Interview with firefighters at Haywards Heath Station
How long have you been a firefighter?
Matt- been retained at Billingshurst for 3 years and has been a wholetime firefighter for 1 year at the Haywards Heath station.
Gary- has been a wholetime firefighter at Haywards Heath station for 10 months, took him around 10 years to get in as there were so many applicants and loads of training and testing.
{A retained firefighter- only attend the station when they have received an emergency callout.}
What kind of qualifications did you need to get to become a firefighter?
GCSE qualifications in maths and English
Also need to complete 12 weeks of training
3 written tests
A physical test
A fitness test
Do you enjoy being a firefighter?
Gary- best job he’s ever had
Matt- absolutely loves it
